What is so important about Scott Newman being a Certified Civil Trial Specialist?

Not all lawyers spend time in a courtroom. When a lawyer holds himself out to the public as a Certified Civil Trial Specialist, it means that your attorney has completed a rigorous process to establish that he is qualified to represent people in court on non-criminal matters.

In Minnesota, there are two different organizations that “Certify” attorneys as a “Civil Trial Specialist”: The National Board of Trial Advocacy and the Minnesota State Bar Association. In order to be Certified by either, an attorney must:

  • Document experience in handling cases in court.
  • Successfully complete an eight hour written examination.
  • Undergo a confidential evaluation by judges and other civil trial attorneys.
  • Demonstrate legal writing skills
  • Be in good standing with the Lawyer’s Board of Professional Responsibility and the Supreme Court Office of Continuing Legal Education.
  • Attend ongoing classes in Civil Trial Skills and law.

If your attorney is a Certified Civil Trial Specialist you are assured that he knows his way around a court room and has the experience necessary to handle your personal injury case.
